Overall Impressions. I try to be realistic and I fully understand that the main goal of any hotel is to make a profit. There is nothing wrong with that – the question is HOW it is done. Some hotels manage to do it in a discreet way: as a guest you primarily feel care and good service, and only later realise that you have spent quite a lot of money. With others, you constantly get the impression that they are charging you for absolutely everything. With Kuramathi, this feeling kept coming back. If the hotel objectively has a serious problem with its house reef, a logical goodwill gesture would be, for example, to offer a complimentary snorkelling trip for guests at least from time to time. I doubt this would become a major financial burden, but it would completely change how guests feel about the resort. Instead, proper snorkelling is only available at a significant additional cost. The same applies to smaller things: charging 15 USD for a group yoga class, in my view, looks petty. This is exactly the kind of activity that could create a feeling of generosity and added value, but in reality it only reinforces the impression that the resort is trying to monetise every possible point. +Water Villa. The island managed to slightly redeem itself at check-in. The process was very quick, with no queues or unnecessary fuss. The hotel also provided early check-in, which is especially nice after a long journey. We really liked the water villa itself: everything was clean, modern and tastefully decorated. The interior looks fresh, with no tired furniture or worn-out finishes and overall it’s simply a pleasant space to be in and to come back to. +Food. Overall, the food is quite good. For lunch and dinner there is a buffet with a decent variety: there was always meat, poultry, fish, cheese platters, fresh greens, fruits and genuinely tasty desserts. Fish in different sauces was almost always very well prepared – juicy and flavourful. Beef, on the other hand, was often tough.
